WoW Class Tuning on October 6 - Unholy DK Nerfed, Devourer and Enhancement Buffed
Blizzard has posted another round of World of Warcraft: Midnight class tuning for the upcoming weekly reset, and if you have been enjoying the newly explosive version of Unholy Death Knight, there is some bad news waiting in the maintenance notes.
Blightfall is being pulled back hard after a recent bug fix made the ability hit much harder than Blizzard intended. At the same time, several underperforming specs are moving in the opposite direction: Devourer Demon Hunter gets a broad single-target pass, Brewmaster gains more reliable dungeon durability, Mistweaver receives raid-focused healing buffs, Subtlety Trickster closes some of the gap to Deathstalker, and Enhancement Shaman gets one of the cleanest throughput buffs of the week.
The changes arrive with scheduled weekly maintenance on October 6 in Blizzard's listed region. European players should expect the corresponding reset on October 7.
Quick answer:
Unholy Death Knight is the only major PvE nerf in this pass: Blightfall drops from 200% to 100% of remaining plague damage. Devourer, Brewmaster, Mistweaver, Subtlety Trickster and Enhancement all receive buffs, while the PvP section contains a much wider collection of talent and tuning changes.
October 6 WoW Class Tuning - Quick Summary
- Unholy DK — Direction: Nerf — Main change: Blightfall: 200% -> 100% remaining plague damage — What players should know: A direct rollback of the recent spike caused by the Blightfall bug fix.
- Devourer DH — Direction: Buff — Main change: Multiple ST abilities +8% to +10% — What players should know: A clear raid and boss-damage pass; changes do not apply in PvP.
- Brewmaster — Direction: Buff — Main change: Stronger Quick Sip and longer dodge window — What players should know: Better baseline durability in dungeons, where Blizzard says Brewmaster death rates are too high.
- Mistweaver — Direction: Buff — Main change: Invigorating Mists and Enveloping Mist +15% — What players should know: Primarily aimed at raid throughput.
- Subtlety Rogue — Direction: Buff — Main change: Trickster damage package improved — What players should know: Fazed goes to 7%, with Unseen Blade +15% and Coup de Grace +10%.
- Enhancement — Direction: Buff — Main change: +4% overall damage; Lava Lash +35% — What players should know: A broad throughput increase with an extra push toward Lava Lash.
Unholy Death Knight Nerf: Blightfall Is Cut Back to 100%
Unholy is the headline change because this is not a small aura adjustment. Blizzard is effectively undoing the recent doubling of Blightfall's plague conversion.
Blightfall will now deal 100% of the remaining damage from your plagues instead of 200%. Blizzard explains that a recent bug fix caused the ability to deal significantly more damage than expected, so this tuning pass is bringing it back down before that spike becomes the new baseline players build around.
There is also a damage-attribution fix involving Augmentation Evoker. Plague eruption damage that was being reattributed through Augmentation could incorrectly appear as Death Knight damage, and Blizzard is correcting that reporting behavior at the same time.
If you swapped into an Unholy setup specifically because Blightfall suddenly became outrageous, this is the reset to watch. The ability is not being deleted from the rotation, but its contribution to burst plague conversion will be dramatically lower than it has been after the recent fix.

Why Blizzard Is Nerfing Blightfall So Quickly
This is one of those changes where the timeline matters. Blizzard increased Blightfall from 100% to 200% of remaining plague damage in the September tuning pass, then fixed an issue that caused the ability to lose damage as more time passed after the plague was applied. Once both changes were working together, the result overshot Blizzard's target.
So while the patch note looks like a brutal 50% reduction to one coefficient, the developers are framing it as a correction after the bug fix exposed the true power of the 200% version.
That distinction will not make the number feel any smaller on your meters, but it does explain why Blizzard is willing to move this particular ability so aggressively between resets.
Devourer Demon Hunter Gets a Broad Single-Target Buff
Devourer Demon Hunter is going the other way. Blizzard says many of the spec's single-target damage sources are landing below expectations, so the October 6 tuning pass buffs several core buttons at once.
- Consume / Devour damage increased by 8%.
- Reap / Cull damage increased by 8%.
- Eradicate primary-target damage increased by 8%.
- Collapsing Star primary-target damage increased by 8%.
- The Hunt initial damage increased by 10%.
- Voidblade damage increased by 10%.
None of those changes apply in PvP. For PvE, however, this is exactly the sort of tuning you want to see if your issue is boss damage rather than AoE. Instead of inflating one cooldown and leaving the rest of the rotation untouched, Blizzard is distributing the gain across multiple single-target sources.

Brewmaster Monk Gets More Dungeon Durability
Brewmaster's section is small on paper but potentially much more important in actual keys. Blizzard says Brewmaster death rates in dungeons are higher than intended, so the spec is getting stronger rotational mitigation rather than a generic health buff.
Quick Sip will purify 8% of current Stagger whenever you gain three seconds of Stagger duration, up from 5%. Pretense of Instability will also grant 10% dodge for eight seconds after drinking a Brew, up from five seconds.
That is a pretty sensible direction. Brewmaster is at its best when staying alive feels tied to actively managing Brews and Stagger, not when the answer is simply 'give the tank another passive 5% reduction.' These changes reinforce the kit players are already pressing.

Mistweaver Gets a Raid-Focused Healing Buff
Mistweaver is also being buffed, but Blizzard is much more explicit about the target: raid performance.
Invigorating Mists healing increases by 15%, and Enveloping Mist healing also increases by 15%. The Enveloping Mist change does not apply in PvP combat.
This is not a flashy redesign, but it should raise the floor on two familiar healing tools without forcing Mistweaver players into a completely different setup just to benefit from the tuning.

Subtlety Rogue: Trickster Closes the Gap to Deathstalker
Subtlety's changes are specifically aimed at Trickster. Blizzard says the Hero Talent package is trailing Deathstalker too far and wants it to be a real option for players who actually prefer the Trickster gameplay and theme.
- Fazed now causes enemies to take 7% more damage, up from 5%.
- Unseen Blade damage increased by 15%.
- Coup de Grace damage increased by 10%.
Again, these are PvE-focused changes and do not apply in PvP. The more interesting part is the design goal: Blizzard is not simply buffing Subtlety as a whole, it is trying to stop one Hero Talent path from feeling like the wrong answer before the dungeon even starts.

Enhancement Shaman Gets +4% Overall and a Huge Lava Lash Buff
Enhancement probably has the easiest patch note to understand this week: Blizzard thinks the spec is underperforming, so almost everything hits harder.
All ability and auto-attack damage is increased by 4%, while Lava Lash gets a separate 35% damage increase. Neither change applies in PvP.
The Lava Lash number is the attention-grabber, but the 4% aura is the part every PvE Enhancement player benefits from regardless of exact build. The extra Lava Lash tuning should also make the button matter more in the overall damage breakdown, which Blizzard specifically calls out as a goal.

What Do These Changes Mean for Mythic+ and Raids?
For raid, Devourer and Mistweaver are the most obviously targeted improvements. Blizzard literally describes the Devourer changes as single-target corrections and the Mistweaver pass as raid-focused, so both should be easy to evaluate once new logs start appearing after reset.
For Mythic+, Brewmaster is the one I would watch most closely. Tank balance is not only about theoretical mitigation; if one tank is simply dying more often in real dungeon pulls, small rotational durability changes can matter more than a DPS buff that looks bigger in the notes.
Enhancement's 4% blanket damage gain is useful everywhere, while the Unholy change could alter how much value players get from builds centered around plague eruption timing. If your route or raid assignment was built around the post-fix Blightfall spike, do not assume your current damage profile survives the reset unchanged.
PvP Tuning Is Much Larger Than the PvE Pass
The PvE headline may be Unholy, but the PvP section of Blizzard's post is much broader. The goal is mainly to improve underused PvP talents and give players more viable choices rather than forcing the same few options every match.
Tank PvP talents that apply Focused Assault are being improved across Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Druid, Monk, Paladin and Warrior. Focused Assault can now stack to six, lasts longer, has a shorter cooldown and reaches farther.
There are also individual buffs across a long list of specs. Some of the larger numerical changes include Beast Mastery Hunter's Dire Beast: Hawk damage +200%, Demonology Warlock's Call Fel Lord Fel Cleave +150%, Evoker Dreamwalker's Embrace +140%, Dragon Charge for Warrior +300%, and significant improvements to several healing and control talents.
Because the PvP changes touch so many classes, I would treat them as a separate checklist if arena or rated battlegrounds are your main content. They are not simply side effects of the PvE tuning above.
When Does the October 6 Class Tuning Go Live?
Blizzard says these changes arrive with scheduled weekly maintenance on October 6 in the region used for the original announcement. For European players, the corresponding weekly reset is expected on October 7.
As always with hotfix-style class tuning, the important thing is to re-check your build after maintenance rather than assuming last week's recommendations are still optimal. WoWStats' PvE talent pages are based on tracked Mythic+ characters, so the pick-rate picture should start shifting as players adapt to the new numbers.

Final Thoughts
This is not the biggest class tuning pass Midnight has seen, but it is a useful one because nearly every PvE change has a clear reason behind it.
Unholy overshot after a bug fix, so Blightfall gets pulled back. Devourer needs better single-target. Brewmaster is dying too often in dungeons. Mistweaver needs more raid throughput. Trickster needs to compete with Deathstalker. Enhancement is simply behind and needs more damage.
I would keep the closest eye on Unholy and Brewmaster after reset. Unholy players are losing a very visible chunk of one of their strongest plague interactions, while Brewmaster's buffs could quietly improve the spec more than the raw numbers suggest if they meaningfully reduce deaths in high keys.
And as usual, do not treat a talent build copied before maintenance as sacred. When Blizzard moves several specs at once, the metagame starts moving immediately after the servers come back up.
