WoW Forever Changes Explained: New Classes, Professions, Hidden Raid Loot and Over 1,000 Quests

World of Warcraft: Forever is starting to look less like a nostalgic server with a few extra zones and more like Blizzard taking the original Azeroth apart, checking which pieces still work, and carefully building around them.

The latest beta coverage and developer interviews have filled in some important gaps. We now have a full preview of the playable race and class combinations, a much clearer picture of professions, confirmation that Barber Shops are in, and an intriguing plan to keep raid loot mysterious until players actually find it.

There is also more room for materials in your bank, over 600 new crafting recipes, and more than a thousand quests being added to a world Blizzard says it wants to expand rather than tear down.

The details come from MMORPG.org.pl and reporting by Wowhead, including its coverage of Blizzard interviews with MMORPG and GameSpot, with additional context from Blizzard’s official Forever panel recaps. Here is what those announcements mean for the characters we will actually be playing.

Quick answer:
Forever keeps Classic-style professions and a demanding level 1–60 world, but adds six new combinations for original races, faction-specific Skyborne classes, 600+ recipes, bigger starting bank storage, Barber Shops, and more than 1,000 quests. Blizzard also intends to hide item stats until loot is discovered on a character or server.

Every Race and Class Combination in WoW Forever

The first decision comes before you even leave your starting zone. Forever keeps the original nine classes but expands the combinations available to several familiar races. The published roster also includes the Skyborne, who choose a faction at character creation and have a different fifth class depending on which side they join.

MMORPG.org.pl published the complete preview list, and Wowhead’s race/class guide confirms the important Skyborne split. Here is the roster currently shown for Forever; the beta could still bring adjustments before launch.

  • Alliance — Race: Human — Available classes: Warrior, Hunter [NEW], Mage, Rogue, Priest, Warlock, Paladin
  • Alliance — Race: Dwarf — Available classes: Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Paladin, Shaman [NEW]
  • Alliance — Race: Night Elf — Available classes: Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Priest, Druid
  • Alliance — Race: Gnome — Available classes: Warrior, Mage, Rogue, Priest [NEW], Warlock
  • Alliance — Race: Skyborne (High Order) — Available classes: Warrior, Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Druid
  • Horde — Race: Orc — Available classes: Warrior, Hunter, Mage [NEW], Rogue, Warlock, Shaman
  • Horde — Race: Undead / Forsaken — Available classes: Warrior, Mage, Rogue, Priest, Warlock, Paladin [NEW]
  • Horde — Race: Tauren — Available classes: Warrior, Hunter, Druid, Shaman
  • Horde — Race: Troll — Available classes: Warrior, Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Priest, Warlock [NEW], Shaman
  • Horde — Race: Skyborne (Windshaper) — Available classes: Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, Shaman

[NEW] marks a pairing that was not available to that original race in vanilla WoW. Skyborne are an entirely new playable race, so their full class lists are new.

The Six New Combinations That Change Character Creation

For Alliance players, the new options are Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman and Gnome Priest. Horde players gain Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin. That final pairing is especially striking if you remember how firmly Paladins were associated with the Alliance in the original game.

The Skyborne deserve a separate note: both factions can create a Warrior, Hunter, Rogue or Druid. An Alliance Skyborne can also be a Mage, while a Horde Skyborne can be a Shaman. Do not plan an Alliance Skyborne Shaman or a Horde Skyborne Mage based on a generic list that merges both factions.

These are creation options, not a prediction about what will dominate raids or PvP. Class balance, racial tuning and actual performance remain separate questions.

Professions Stay Classic-Style, but Crafting Gets a Huge Expansion

One of the most reassuring details for anyone who liked the simplicity of old-school crafting is that Forever is not importing Retail’s Dragonflight-era profession overhaul wholesale.

Recipes still have fixed material requirements and produce items with fixed stats. You are not being asked to learn the modern crafting-quality system just to make your first piece of gear.

Blizzard is changing what you can make, though. Its Forever Deep Dive and Wowhead report more than 600 new recipes spread across professions and level ranges, alongside revisions to older recipes. The stated aim is to give crafted gear and other profession rewards a meaningful role while you level, rather than leaving most of the useful items for level 60.

That could change a familiar Classic habit: leveling Mining only to sell everything immediately might be less attractive if the Blacksmithing recipes available along the way are genuinely useful. That is an editorial reading of Blizzard’s design goal, not a claim about launch-day Auction House prices.

Camping Gives Professions a Social Job

Camping is where the profession redesign gets much more interesting. A player can create a campsite with an outdoor campfire, giving travelers a place to rest and access conveniences such as vendors, repairs and workspaces. Players can contribute crafted profession objects to the camp, providing useful buffs or utilities to anyone stopping by.

The official Deep Dive gives examples: Blacksmiths can supply a Sharpening Wheel for Attack Power, Tailors a Faction Banner for Spirit and Herbalists an Incense Candle for Intellect. These buffs are versions of familiar class effects and do not stack with the equivalent class buff. So no, the obvious plan is not to pile a camp buff on top of Arcane Intellect for double value.

Basic camps can hold up to three contributed objects, while upgraded Cooking campfires can increase that capacity. More advanced profession objects and recipes can also be earned through dungeon content.

In its summary of the MMORPG interview, Wowhead says a player’s campfire lasts about ten minutes with a one-hour cooldown; camps cannot be placed in cities or too close to other camps. Those are reported interview details worth checking again when the final version launches.

It is a small system on paper. In practice, it gives a miner, tailor or herbalist an excuse to contribute something when strangers meet on the road. That feels much closer to the kind of social design Blizzard says it wants Forever to have.

Legacy Progression Rewards Your Profession Milestones

Professions also feed into the new Legacy system, Forever’s progression framework for characters and alts.

According to Wowhead’s profession breakdown, the first time you bring each tradeskill to skill 150, 225 and 300, you earn a Legacy Point at those milestones. Spending points in the Professions tree can unlock bonuses such as better chances to gain skill and increased yields of certain scarce materials gathered through Mining, Herbalism and Skinning.

That adds another reason to work on a profession over time. It also means the value of a tradeskill cannot be judged exclusively by what one high-end recipe sells for on a given day.

New characters get an early nudge into gathering, too: a starter-zone quest around level 3 or 4 offers a manual for Herbalism, Mining or Skinning, provided you meet the training requirements and have not already filled your two primary-profession slots.

The Starting Bank Is Bigger, but Your Bags Are Still Classic-Sized

Forever may want you to think carefully about your backpack, but Blizzard does not want your bank to become a storage emergency quite so quickly.

In the MMORPG interview summarized by Wowhead, the developers said the default bank is either about twice or four times as large as the original version. Crucially, they did not settle on a precise number in that summary, so it would be misleading to advertise a confirmed four-times-larger bank.

Your starting bags remain the same size as the original game’s. Blizzard expects to increase storage further over time when players genuinely need it, rather than beginning with a huge inventory system everywhere.

For crafters, the combination makes sense: more recipes mean more potentially useful materials to keep, while familiar bag limitations preserve that old Classic question of whether you really need to carry three different stacks of ore into a dungeon.

Raid Loot Will Be Hidden Until Players Discover It

This may be the most unusual piece of the entire announcement, especially for a community that usually has full pre-raid Best-in-Slot spreadsheets ready before the first boss dies.

Blizzard told MMORPG that it is obscuring item information: players should not see an item’s stats until that item drops for them or is discovered on their server. The developers also say Forever will not include a Dungeon Journal.

The purpose is discovery. Rather than inspecting a complete loot table before the doors even open, a guild may have to kill a boss, see what appears, and only then start working out where the item belongs in its gearing plans.

The important caveat is that this describes the intended in-game information experience. It does not guarantee that no item will ever be datamined or that websites will stop publishing BiS lists. Blizzard explicitly expects players to create guides after discoveries happen.

That first raid reset could be fun. Someone will get a strange Epic, the guild will argue over it, and only after that will the theorycrafting begin. For one evening, an item might be a surprise rather than a preassigned row in a spreadsheet.

Barber Shops Are Confirmed for WoW Forever

You will not have to reroll a character because you regret the hairstyle you picked at level one.

Wowhead reports that Barber Shops are present in Forever based on the BlizzCon demo and confirmation from its coverage. They allow appearance changes including hairstyle and body type, among other customization options.

There is still a small but important unanswered question: Blizzard has not confirmed whether using the shop will cost gold. Do not copy the price or free-use rules from another version of WoW and assume they apply here.

It is a sensible convenience to bring into a game built around long-term character attachment. You can spend weeks leveling your Warrior without being permanently committed to the haircut you chose at midnight on launch day.

Blizzard Is Adding More Than 1,000 New Quests Without Rebuilding the Old World

GameSpot’s Blizzard interview, summarized by Wowhead, gives us a useful sense of scale. The designers estimated that original WoW had roughly 3,000–3,500 quests, and Forever adds around 1,000 more. Blizzard’s own What’s Next recap describes the addition as more than a thousand new quests across the level 1–60 journey.

The game also introduces four new zones. The interview puts their individual quest counts at roughly 50–200 each, while updates to existing zones help spread fresh content beyond the completely new areas. Wetlands and Azshara were singled out for additional quests, and the developers say players should begin seeing something new from around level five.

That approach matters. A thousand quests packed into the last ten levels would be new content; quests appearing throughout the whole journey can change the feeling of leveling a second or third character.

Blizzard wants new areas to feel as though they might have been there all along. The MMORPG interview likewise describes a generally additive philosophy: large, destructive changes to the old world are possible, but the team wants to use them sparingly. Azshara gains quests, and Wetlands receives lighting and art updates rather than simply being wiped away and rebuilt.

The classic roads should still look familiar. Ideally, you will just notice that one path now leads somewhere you never reached before.

Class Questlines Will Mix Returning and New Ideas

Questing changes are not limited to ordinary zone stories. In the MMORPG interview, Blizzard said some class quests from Season of Discovery are returning, some new quests have been written, and others have been expanded.

The developers want to do more class questlines in the future, though that does not mean every experimental Season of Discovery feature will be available at launch. The GameSpot interview describes Season of Discovery as a temporary experimental mode, and says a number of its ideas do not automatically carry into a permanent Forever experience.

That distinction is healthy for expectations. If you loved an unusual Season of Discovery build, wait for an explicit Forever announcement before treating it as part of your launch plan.

What These Changes Mean Before Launch

There are two very different sides to Forever’s design. On one side, Blizzard is retaining Classic’s slower fights, limited starting bag space, fixed crafting recipes and a world where pulling several enemies at once can be dangerous. On the other, it is bringing in Barber Shops, stronger long-term profession incentives and an expanded race roster.

The choices make more sense together than they do as individual features. A bigger bank prevents needless frustration without making every bag decision disappear. A Barber Shop respects the time you invest in a character without changing combat. Camping gives professions value and deliberately encourages players to meet. And hidden loot tries to put a little surprise back into raid night.

If you are planning your first character, the practical priorities are simple: confirm your exact race/class pairing, check the faction-specific Skyborne list, choose professions with leveling in mind, and expect the first reliable raid gearing guides to emerge through actual drops rather than assuming all loot information is final before release.

WoW Forever Changes FAQ

What new race and class combinations are in WoW Forever?

The six new pairings for returning races are Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest, Orc Mage, Undead Paladin and Troll Warlock. Skyborne are also playable on both factions, with faction-specific class lists.

Can Skyborne be Mages and Shamans?

Not on the same faction. Alliance Skyborne can be Mages; Horde Skyborne can be Shamans. Both sides also have access to Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid.

Are WoW Forever professions the same as Retail?

No. Forever retains Classic-style fixed materials and item stats rather than importing Retail’s profession overhaul. It also adds more than 600 recipes and new progression features.

How many new profession recipes are in WoW Forever?

Blizzard says more than 600 new recipes are being added across professions and leveling ranges, with existing recipes also being adjusted.

Do camping profession buffs stack with class buffs?

No. Equivalent profession and class buffs do not stack, so an Intellect camp effect does not add extra Intellect on top of the matching Mage buff.

How much bigger is the bank in WoW Forever?

Blizzard described the default bank as roughly double or quadruple the original size in the MMORPG interview. The exact multiplier was not settled in that account; starting bags retain their original sizes.

Will players see raid loot before a boss drops it?

Blizzard intends to hide item information until it is discovered by a player or on a server. There will be no Dungeon Journal, although the developers expect community loot guides to emerge after discoveries.

Is there a Barber Shop in WoW Forever?

Yes. It supports character appearance changes such as hairstyle and body type. The cost, if any, has not yet been confirmed in the cited coverage.

How many new quests does WoW Forever add?

Blizzard says more than 1,000 new quests are being added across the level 1–60 experience, including four new zones and updates to existing areas.

Will Season of Discovery class quests return?

Some will return, while others have been expanded and entirely new class quests are being added. Blizzard has not promised to carry over every Season of Discovery experiment.

Final Thoughts

The more we learn about World of Warcraft: Forever, the clearer its direction becomes: keep the parts of original WoW that make the world feel big, then make that world worth exploring again.

A new Undead Paladin is a headline. More than 600 recipes will matter over dozens of leveling hours. A larger bank will spare some headaches. The absence of a Dungeon Journal might make the first raid nights feel properly unknown again.

And a thousand-plus new quests mean that even the familiar road out of a starting zone may no longer lead to exactly the adventure you remember.

There are still details to settle during beta, from precise bank capacity to Barber Shop pricing and how effectively Blizzard can keep undiscovered loot under wraps. But the picture is already considerably more interesting than simply calling Forever “Classic with extra content.”

It is still Azeroth. This time, there should be a lot more reasons to take the long way around.
