WoW Adds a $25 Living Cauldron Mount and New Haunted Grimtide Housing Packs

8 min read

Blizzard apparently looked at Hallow's End and decided the correct amount of haunted furniture was 'more.'

October 27 brought two separate shop drops for Modern World of Warcraft: the Living Heartsbane Cauldron mount and the Grimtide Housing collection.

The mount is a flying cauldron wrapped in Drust-style witchcraft, candles, books and thorns. The Housing side goes in a different direction: a full sea-haunted estate covered in tentacles, plus a matching decor pack full of furniture, candles, windows, rugs and one very committed tentacle.

They are visually strong cosmetics. They are also paid store items in a subscription game, so it is worth being precise about what each costs and what you actually get before deciding whether the theme is worth the money.

Living Heartsbane Cauldron Price and Availability

  • Living Heartsbane Cauldron — Price: $25 / €25 — Availability: Modern WoW characters; ground or flying based on riding skill
  • Grimtide Estate — Price: 2,500 Hearthsteel ($/€25 equivalent) — Availability: Modern WoW Housing; requires Midnight
  • Grimtide Decor Pack — Price: 1,000 Hearthsteel ($/€10 equivalent) — Availability: Modern WoW Housing; requires Midnight

What Is the Living Heartsbane Cauldron?

The mount is a cursed living cauldron built around a Drust/witchcraft visual theme.

Blizzard says it is shared across all present and future Modern WoW characters and automatically scales to the fastest riding skill each character knows. If a character cannot fly yet, the same mount functions on the ground.

That makes it a normal account-wide Modern WoW shop mount rather than a one-character cosmetic.

Important:
The Living Heartsbane Cauldron is not available in World of Warcraft Classic games or World of Warcraft: Forever. Blizzard states that limitation directly on the store announcement.

What Comes With the Grimtide Estate?

The Grimtide Estate is the larger Housing purchase at 2,500 Hearthsteel, equivalent to $/€25 at Blizzard's stated rate of 100 Hearthsteel per $1.

It includes two major Housing pieces:

  • Spirited Grimtide Manse - Housing Exterior
  • Spirited Grimtide Foyer - Housing Interior

The theme is nautical horror rather than generic Halloween: weathered wood, sea damage, curling tentacles and the feeling that something from the ocean absolutely should have stayed there.

This is not just a furniture bundle. You are paying for the appearance of the house itself, inside and out.

What Is in the Grimtide Decor Pack?

The separate Grimtide Decor Pack costs 1,000 Hearthsteel ($/€10) and contains 21 different decor types, many with multiple copies.

  • Tables, side tables, coffee tables and dining chairs.
  • Couches and rugs in multiple sizes.
  • A Grimtide Grand Piano.
  • Daytime and nighttime windows.
  • Candles, chandeliers, sconces and candelabras.
  • Bookcases, a floor hatch and a display anchor.
  • Four Grimtide Tentacles, because apparently one would not have been enough.

Blizzard says every item in the pack can be dyed except the Grimtide Tentacle. Individual decor items can also be purchased separately through the in-game or Battle.net shop.

The Decor Pack Is a Limited Offer

The Grimtide Decor Pack is listed as available through December 1, 2026.

That deadline applies to the pack offer. If you care about one or two specific pieces rather than the full bundle, check the individual Hearthsteel pricing before buying the collection simply because a timer exists.

What Is Hearthsteel?

Hearthsteel is Blizzard's paid Housing currency for Modern World of Warcraft.

It is purchased with real money using Battle.net balance and then spent on Housing items through the Battle.net or in-game shop. Blizzard currently describes the conversion at 100 Hearthsteel per $1, which is why 2,500 Hearthsteel maps to $25 and 1,000 maps to $10.

Using a virtual currency naturally makes prices feel less direct than a dollar label, so I prefer writing both numbers whenever possible.

None of This Is Available in WoW Forever

This deserves its own section because October is currently full of WoW Forever news and it would be very easy to assume the new mount or Housing cosmetics cross over.

They do not.

Blizzard explicitly says the Living Heartsbane Cauldron is unavailable in Classic games and WoW Forever. The Grimtide Housing items are also unavailable in Classic or Forever, and Housing itself requires access to World of Warcraft: Midnight.

If you are buying something specifically for your November 4 Forever character, this is not it.

Is the Living Heartsbane Cauldron Worth $25?

That depends almost entirely on how much you value the model.

There is no player power attached to the purchase. It scales with riding skill and works as both ground and flying transportation, but functionally your account already has dozens of mounts that do the same job.

The value is the look: a floating haunted cauldron with a very specific Drust/Hallow's End vibe.

If that visual is exactly what your witchy character has been missing, the price is straightforward. If you are asking whether it is mechanically worth $25, the answer is no because mechanics are not what you are buying.

The Community Reaction Is Predictably Split

Wowhead comments on the mount are already doing what WoW shop comments usually do.

Some players like the unique model. Others are frustrated by the frequency of store cosmetics and argue that a mount this thematic would have made a better in-game reward, especially while the game is also selling Housing packs.

Those comments are not representative polling, but the criticism is worth acknowledging because the context matters: the mount, $25 estate and $10 decor pack all appeared at essentially the same time.

The clean editorial line is simple. These are optional cosmetics with no power benefit, but players are still entitled to judge whether a subscription game is putting too much of its best cosmetic work behind additional payments.

What Would I Buy?

If I had to choose one, the Grimtide Estate is the most transformative purchase because it changes the actual Housing shell rather than adding another mount to a collection already measured in the hundreds.

The Decor Pack is easier to justify if you are actively building a haunted or nautical house because $10 gives you a coherent furniture set rather than one object.

The cauldron is the pure collector purchase: visually excellent, functionally redundant.

Living Heartsbane Cauldron and Grimtide FAQ

How much does the Living Heartsbane Cauldron cost?

Can the Living Heartsbane Cauldron fly?

Yes. It scales to the fastest riding skill the character knows and functions as a ground mount if the character cannot yet use flying mounts.

No. Blizzard says the mount is not available in WoW Classic games or World of Warcraft: Forever.

How much does the Grimtide Estate cost?

The estate costs 2,500 Hearthsteel, equivalent to $/€25 at Blizzard's stated 100 Hearthsteel per $1 rate.

How much does the Grimtide Decor Pack cost?

The decor pack costs 1,000 Hearthsteel, equivalent to $/€10.

Does Grimtide Housing work in WoW Forever?

No. The Housing items are for Modern WoW, require access to Midnight Housing, and are not available in Classic or Forever.

When does the Grimtide Decor Pack leave the shop?

Blizzard lists the pack offer through December 1, 2026.

Final Thoughts

The strongest thing about this shop drop is the art direction. The cauldron looks like something a Drust witch actually built, and the Grimtide house avoids the generic haunted-mansion trap by leaning hard into ocean horror.

The weakest part is the stacking of purchases: $25 mount, $25 house shell and $10 decor pack all arriving together makes the store presence impossible to ignore.

If you like the cosmetics, buy the one that will actually change how you play or decorate. If you do not, there is no power penalty for skipping all three.

And if your main focus is WoW Forever next week, save the money entirely - none of these items come with you.
