WoW Midnight Patch 12.1.5 Arrives October 13 - Kith'ix Raid, Kindo'jan Labyrinth, Class Fixes & More
World of Warcraft: Forever may be stealing most of the headlines right now, but Retail is not exactly going quiet before November.
Blizzard has confirmed that World of Warcraft: Midnight Patch 12.1.5 launches on October 13 in North America and October 14 in Europe, and this is a much bigger mid-season update than the version number makes it sound.
We are getting a new one-boss raid against Kith'ix, a nine-chamber Delve-style Labyrinth that can award Mythic gear, a new story campaign, Aqir Invasions, another Season 2 power upgrade, the return of Keystone Myth and a fresh PTR build with class fixes and a few real tuning changes.
In other words, this is not one of those .5 patches where you log in, do three quests and wonder what changed.
There is enough here to change what many players will be doing during the second half of Midnight Season 2.
Quick answer:
WoW Midnight Patch 12.1.5 releases October 13 in NA and October 14 in EU. Its biggest additions are The Unbinding of Kith'ix one-boss raid, the Labyrinth of Kindo'jan, Season 2 mid-season power upgrades, Keystone Myth at 3600 rating, The Promise of Tomorrow campaign, Aqir Invasions and multiple PTR class fixes.

When Does WoW Midnight Patch 12.1.5 Release?
Patch 12.1.5 launches with weekly maintenance on October 13 for North American realms and October 14 for European realms.
Some of the Season 2 refresh actually begins before the patch itself. Blizzard wants players to start the Orin Straylight questline in Silvermoon during the week of October 6, so there is a reason to log in before launch day rather than waiting for the new raid to open.
The update is positioned as the bridge between Curse of Ula'tek and the next major chapter of Midnight. More importantly for players actually logging in every week, it also gives Season 2 a second progression curve instead of leaving the tier to coast until Patch 12.2.
The Unbinding of Kith'ix Is a New One-Boss Raid
The headline encounter is The Unbinding of Kith'ix, a focused single-boss raid beneath the Venomous Abyss.
After Ula'tek's defeat, the ancient restraints keeping the C'Thraxxi general imprisoned have weakened. We head down with Lady Liadrin and deal with the thing the Amani apparently decided was better left buried for a very long time.
The raid will be available in Story Mode, Normal, Heroic and Mythic difficulty. The unusual part is Mythic: Blizzard is using a flexible group size of 15 to 25 players instead of the traditional fixed 20-player requirement.
For a one-boss side raid, that is a sensible experiment. Anyone who has tried to assemble exactly 20 people for a short optional Mythic encounter knows that roster logistics can be more annoying than the boss itself.
Kith'ix is also more than a loot pinata. Blizzard says the fight brings the Quel'Thalas and Zul'Aman storyline to its decisive confrontation, so this is effectively the final boss of the current story arc.
Kith'ix Already Has New Raid Music on the PTR
The latest PTR build also added new music for the Kith'ix encounter, and it is one of those details that makes the raid feel much closer to finished than a simple placeholder test room.
Wowhead has already datamined the encounter tracks. Obviously music does not tell us whether the boss will be good, but this is Warcraft - a ridiculous amount of the atmosphere comes from the soundtrack, especially when Blizzard wants a fight to feel like the end of a chapter.
If you normally mute the game and run Mythic+ with a playlist in the background, this may be one of those fights worth doing once with the music turned back on.
Labyrinth of Kindo'jan Is Basically a Delve Mega-Dungeon
For solo and small-group players, the more interesting addition may be the Labyrinth of Kindo'jan.
Blizzard describes Labyrinths as sprawling, mega-dungeon-like experiences built on the basic Delve idea. Kindo'jan has nine chambers and sends you through an ancient Amani funeral complex alongside Valeera Sanguinar.
You do not have to clear the entire thing in one sitting. You can push through the full Labyrinth as one long run or tackle it wing by wing, with more rooms creating more chances for rewards and more opportunities for something to go wrong.
The reward ceiling is the part that will get people's attention: Patch 12.1.5 advertises a Tier 11 solo challenge, Mythic-quality gear, cosmetics, titles and additional progression systems tied specifically to the Labyrinth.
That makes Kindo'jan more than an oversized Delve. It is Blizzard testing whether the Delve formula can support something closer to a proper long-form dungeon without turning it into another five-player Mythic+ instance.
Season 2 Mid-Season Refresh Starts Before Patch Day
The gearing changes are slightly more complicated because they roll out in stages.
During the week of October 6, Orin Straylight in Silvermoon begins offering an additional Nebulous Voidcore each week for an extra loot bonus roll. Blizzard recommends completing In the Catalyst's Shadow and Prismatic Potential before the weekly maintenance so Orin can begin his research as early as possible.
When Patch 12.1.5 arrives, the next step begins with Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom. Orin then researches Ascendant Venomstones, with the system fully unlocking during the following weekly reset - the week of October 20 in NA and October 21 in EU.
This is the point where the mid-season refresh becomes a real character-power system rather than just another weekly quest.
What Are Ascendant Venomstones?
Ascendant Venomstones are the new second-half Season 2 upgrade material.
Once unlocked, they can drop from Heroic and Mythic raid bosses, Mythic+ dungeons at +10 or higher, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion gear chests.
Collect 10 of them and you can use them near the Catalyst in Silvermoon to raise the item level of a fully upgraded Season 2 Hero or Myth item, or a maximum-quality Tidal Crafted weapon, trinket or necklace.
The important word there is fully upgraded. This is not replacing the normal upgrade track; it is giving geared characters one more step after they have already finished that track.
Blizzard is also lifting the crest cap during the same general reset window, which should make late-season gearing and alt catch-up considerably less restrictive.
Keystone Myth Returns at 3600 Mythic+ Rating
High-key players get another target as well: Keystone Myth returns in Patch 12.1.5.
For Season 2, the achievement requires a Mythic+ rating of 3600. Blizzard says the number reflects current rating data, the difficulty of the dungeon pool and the additional character power arriving with the mid-season refresh.
The developers are also planning targeted dungeon tuning when Keystone Myth returns, specifically to deal with difficulty outliers.
If you are sitting on the edge of your push goals right now, that last point matters. The Season 2 dungeon pool you know today may not be exactly the pool you are pushing once 12.1.5 is live.
The Promise of Tomorrow Continues the Midnight Story
Patch 12.1.5 also brings a new campaign chapter called The Promise of Tomorrow.
The story sends us back into the tension between Quel'Thalas and Zul'Aman after Ula'tek's defeat, before eventually taking us deeper into the Coiled Isle and toward Kith'ix.
This is worth emphasizing because 12.1.5 is not a disconnected side patch. Kith'ix, the campaign and the new raid are all part of the same storyline, and Blizzard has positioned this update as the dramatic end of the current Quel'Thalas and Zul'Aman arc.
With Patch 12.2: Eclipse waiting after it, this is effectively the point where Midnight starts closing one chapter before the expansion heads toward the Worldcore.
Aqir Invasions Bring a New Hourly Outdoor Event
If you prefer your WoW content above ground, Aqir Invasions are the new zone-wide public event coming to Eversong and Zul'Aman.
The event runs for ten minutes every hour. Players move through a sequence of public objectives before an end boss appears, with three combat scenario types, three non-combat scenarios and eight possible combat affixes changing how the invasion behaves.
It sounds like familiar modern WoW event design, but the short ten-minute window is probably the right call. Nobody needs another world event that feels like a second job before you are allowed to kill the boss.
Patch 12.1.5 PTR Class Changes - What Actually Matters?
The newest PTR development notes also include class changes, but it is important not to oversell them as a full balance pass.
Most of the list is bug fixing, animation work or talent behavior corrections. There are, however, a few changes that can affect how a spec actually plays - especially Augmentation Evoker and Protection Warrior.
You can compare current live Mythic+ builds across every spec on our WoW PvE Talents hub. The pages below use tracked PvE builds, so they are useful for seeing what players are actually running before and after the patch.
Evoker Gets the Most Obvious Numerical Change
Augmentation Evoker's Scalecommander tree gets the clearest raw buff in this PTR build: Melt Armor damage is increased by 100%.
Chronowarden also receives behavior changes, with Temporality and Temporal Burst durations now scaling with Mastery: Timewalker.
Preservation gets several fixes. Consume Flame no longer double-dips from healing increases on the target, while Blizzard fixed interactions involving Double-time, Life-Giver's Flame, Afterimage and Deep Breath.
Current WoWStats builds: Augmentation Evoker PvE Talents | Preservation Evoker PvE Talents
Hunter Fixes Marksmanship and Survival Talent Interactions
Marksmanship gets a useful quality-of-life fix: Explosive Shot should no longer decide to fire at a nearby enemy when you press it without a target selected. Dark Ranger's Umbral Reach should also correctly generate Trick Shots when Bleak Powder hits exactly two targets.
Survival fixes are aimed at Raptor Swipe and Strike as One while Aspect of the Eagle is active, including both bonus-damage behavior and an unintended range increase.

Frost Mage Gets Several Shatter and Targeting Fixes
Frost Mage has three fixes in the current notes. Splitting Ice Frostbolt gets a corrected secondary-target search radius, while Shatter should now behave correctly when multiple Ice Lances are already travelling toward the target.
Crystalline Refraction also gets a fix for an edge case where interrupting Ray of Frost by recasting it could prevent Fingers of Frost generation.
Current WoWStats build: Frost Mage PvE Talents
Monk, Rogue and Shaman Changes Are Mostly Cleanup
Monk gets a Transcendence: Transfer fix so Linked Spirits no longer lets the ability bypass a silence.
Rogue's changes are primarily visual this week: Assassination's Mutilate and Crimson Tempest receive updated weapon trails, while Subtlety's Shadow Blades gets updated cast and weapon visuals.
Shaman has more gameplay-relevant fixes. Enhancement should no longer lose automatic Maelstrom Weapon generation when Static Accumulation is activated at awkward points during Ascendance or Doom Winds. Restoration's Swelling Tides now extends Riptide's timer instead of resetting it, and Nature's Swiftness / Ancestral Swiftness should correctly make Healing Rain instant.
Current WoWStats builds: Monk PvE Talents | Assassination Rogue PvE Talents | Subtlety Rogue PvE Talents | Enhancement Shaman PvE Talents | Restoration Shaman PvE Talents
Protection Warrior Colossus Gets Cheaper Revenge and Execute
Protection Warrior gets the other notable rotation-level change.
Blizzard says Colossus is supposed to represent a Warrior using Rage more efficiently. Practiced Strikes now reduces the Rage cost of Execute and Revenge by 10, giving Colossus easier access to both buttons and, in Blizzard's words, better threat-management tools.
These changes were already active in the previous PTR build, but they are now documented in the development notes.

Should You Change Your Talents Before Patch 12.1.5?
Not because of these notes alone.
Most of the listed class work fixes talents and abilities that were not behaving as intended rather than creating completely new builds. The obvious exceptions are changes with direct numerical or rotational impact, such as Melt Armor for Augmentation and the Rage efficiency change for Protection Warrior Colossus.
The better approach is to watch what happens on live servers after the patch. Talent popularity can move quickly once players test a fix in real Mythic+ keys, especially if an interaction was previously suppressing a Hero Talent or making a particular build unreliable.
Our PvE talent pages track popular Mythic+ choices, so they are a useful place to compare live build behavior once 12.1.5 has been out long enough for new data to accumulate.
What Should You Do Before Patch 12.1.5?
If you are actively playing Season 2, there are a few things worth doing before October 13 rather than treating this as a patch you can completely ignore until launch night.
- Complete In the Catalyst's Shadow if you have not already done so.
- Pick up and finish Prismatic Potential from Orin Straylight in Silvermoon during the week of October 6.
- If you push Mythic+, remember that Keystone Myth will target 3600 rating once it returns.
- Expect targeted dungeon tuning alongside the Keystone Myth return, so old assumptions about the hardest keys may change.
- If Kith'ix is part of your raid plan, remember that Mythic can be entered with 15-25 players rather than exactly 20.
- Check your class fixes before launch if you play one of the affected specs, especially Augmentation Evoker, Restoration Shaman or Protection Warrior.
Is Patch 12.1.5 a Big Update?
For a mid-season patch, yes.
It is not a new season and it is not trying to be Patch 12.2, but it touches almost every type of player: raiders get Kith'ix, Delve players get the Labyrinth, Mythic+ players get Keystone Myth and dungeon tuning, geared characters get another upgrade layer, outdoor players get Aqir Invasions and story players get the end of the Quel'Thalas and Zul'Aman arc.
That is a much healthier mid-season update than simply increasing item levels and asking everyone to keep doing the exact same content for another few months.
The real test will be the Labyrinth. If Kindo'jan actually feels like a proper long-form adventure rather than nine Delves glued together, Blizzard may have found a useful new pillar for solo and small-group PvE.

Final Thoughts
Patch 12.1.5 is arriving at a slightly awkward moment for Retail because WoW: Forever is currently the shiny new thing everyone wants to talk about.
But if you are still playing Midnight, there is plenty here worth coming back for.
Kith'ix gives the current story a real raid finale. Kindo'jan is Blizzard's first serious attempt to stretch Delves into something closer to a mega-dungeon. The Season 2 refresh gives geared characters another reason to push endgame content, and Keystone Myth gives high-key players a concrete late-season goal.
The class notes are smaller, but that is fine. A .5 patch does not need to rewrite every talent tree when several of the changes are simply fixing abilities that should have worked properly in the first place.
For me, the Labyrinth is the feature to watch. If it works, it could be more important to WoW's long-term PvE structure than the one-boss raid that gets most of the screenshots.
Either way, October 13 is suddenly looking much busier than it did a week ago.
