WoW Forever Leveling Tier List - Best Classes to Level 1-60

WoW Forever Leveling Tier List - Best Classes to Level 1-60

Dariz · 10/21/2026

There are two ways to choose a leveling class in WoW.

You can pick the fastest thing on the server, optimize every pull and arrive at 60 with a route spreadsheet open on your second monitor.

Or you can pick Warrior because you like two-handed swords and accept that a random orange mob may become a small personal raid encounter.

Both are valid. This list is for the first question: which classes currently make the trip from 1 to 60 easiest, fastest and least dependent on begging a healer to come outside the dungeon?

Quick answer:
Hunter and Warlock are the clear S-tier leveling classes in the current Forever beta. Mage, Shaman and Paladin form the next group. Rogue and Druid are solid but less effortless. Priest and Warrior are slower solo levelers, even though both can become excellent endgame mains.

WoW Forever Leveling Tier List - October 19

  • S — Classes: Hunter, Warlock — Why: Low downtime, pets or summons, excellent solo safety and strong damage before full endgame gear.
  • A — Classes: Mage, Shaman, Paladin — Why: Very strong leveling with good utility, but more mana, setup or gear friction than S tier.
  • B — Classes: Rogue, Druid — Why: Good mobility/control or flexibility, but less consistent speed and more gear/rotation dependence.
  • C — Classes: Priest, Warrior — Why: Can level safely or scale well later, but current solo speed/downtime is worse than the field.

S Tier - Hunter

Hunter is still the leveling class I would hand to a friend who wants to see the world instead of the spirit healer.

The pet creates distance between you and mistakes. Auto Shot and ranged abilities let you start dealing damage before the mob reaches you. Feign Death gives you an escape button. Forever's pet scaling changes also mean the pet does not feel like a separate character whose power forgot to keep up with your gear.

Mobalytics has Hunter in S tier for leveling and updated its Hunter leveling guide on October 18. ConquestCapped also calls Hunter the best leveling class in its recent guide.

For the current beta, Beast Mastery is the easiest recommendation because it pushes more work onto the pet. Marksmanship is stronger than it has any right to be at level 30, but the effortless BM loop is exactly what you want when the goal is getting through hundreds of quests.

You can plan the current tree in our Hunter Talent Calculator.

S Tier - Warlock

Warlock levels like somebody remembered to bring food, bandages and a bodyguard without actually filling their bags with any of those things.

A demon tanks, DoTs keep working while you move to the next target, Drain Life reduces recovery time and Fear gives you an emergency answer when a second mob decides to join the conversation.

The class is not always as fast as Hunter in a clean route, but it is wonderfully resistant to bad pulls.

That matters in Forever because Classic-style leveling is not a perfectly controlled simulator. You are going to get respawns, caves, elites and other players turning your neat two-mob pull into five.

A Tier - Mage

Mage remains one of the best leveling classes if you enjoy actively solving pulls instead of delegating the problem to a pet.

Frost gives you slows, roots and control. Food and water reduce the economic pain of drinking every few pulls. Teleports and portals become increasingly valuable the farther your quest route spreads across Azeroth.

The reason Mage is A rather than S is downtime. If you are constantly stopping to drink, the seconds add up. Skilled AoE players can obviously turn that argument upside down, but that is player execution, not baseline class comfort.

A Tier - Shaman

Enhancement is currently one of the strongest damage specs in the Level 30 beta, and Shaman brings a ridiculous amount of utility while leveling.

Ghost Wolf alone makes the class feel better in open-world routes. Healing reduces downtime, totems solve specific problems and Enhancement can keep moving without drinking after every pack.

The October 15 build also improved Elemental's talent access and mana picture, so players who prefer ranged leveling have a more convincing option than they did a week earlier.

A Tier - Paladin

Paladin is not always fast, but it is extremely difficult to make one stop leveling.

Self-healing, plate later on, defensive cooldowns and the ability to deal with several mobs at once make the class forgiving. Retribution is the obvious solo path, but Protection becomes genuinely interesting once Consecration and the reworked threat tools are online.

If Hunter is the class for somebody who wants to kill quickly, Paladin is the class for somebody who wants to finish the quest even after the pull goes wrong.

B Tier - Rogue

Rogue is excellent at avoiding the content it does not want to do.

Stealth saves enormous amounts of time inside caves and buildings, Sap simplifies dangerous packs and Vanish turns a bad route decision into somebody else's problem.

The downside is gear dependence and recovery. When the weapon falls behind, Rogue feels it immediately. When you take too much damage, you do not have Warlock-style sustain or Paladin healing to erase the downtime.

Combat is the easiest recommendation for straightforward PvE leveling, while Subtlety remains the more PvP-flavored option.

B Tier - Druid

Druid looks better the more you value flexibility instead of raw kill speed.

Travel tools, Cat mobility, Bear durability and self-healing make questing comfortable. Forever also removes several old shapeshifting annoyances, including more interactions and consumables working in form.

Feral is the obvious leveling route, but the class still pays for versatility. You are not as effortlessly efficient as Hunter or Warlock, and some of the strongest Druid talents arrive later.

Our Druid deep dive covers the new form and weapon-scaling rules.

C Tier - Priest

Priest is not unsafe. That is important.

A Priest can heal itself, shield, wand enemies down and recover from pulls that kill greedier classes. The problem is speed. You spend more time managing mana and more time watching efficient wand damage than you do deleting mobs.

Shadow becomes much more interesting as the tree develops, but current fresh leveling rankings still place Priest near the bottom for overall pace.

If you know you want to heal at 60, that is not a reason to avoid the class. It is simply the tax you pay on the way there.

C Tier - Warrior

Warrior leveling is a long-term investment disguised as a bar fight.

When your weapon is good, the class feels fantastic. When your weapon falls five levels behind, every yellow mob suddenly develops a personal grudge.

Forever improves Rage generation and gives Warrior Victory Rush, so this is less miserable than old Classic. It is still the most gear-dependent class on the list and lacks the self-healing or pet safety net that makes S-tier classes so forgiving.

The irony is that Warrior may become one of the best endgame classes. That is why we split this article from the main tier list.

If endgame matters more than leveling speed, read the WoW Forever Class Tier List before writing Warrior off.

Best Leveling Spec for Every Class

  • Druid — Recommended leveling direction: Feral — Player note: Mobility, Cat speed and Bear safety make it the cleanest general path.
  • Hunter — Recommended leveling direction: Beast Mastery — Player note: The simplest and safest pet-first leveling setup.
  • Mage — Recommended leveling direction: Frost — Player note: Control and survivability; strong for solo and AoE players.
  • Paladin — Recommended leveling direction: Retribution — Player note: Straightforward damage with the class defensive toolkit behind it.
  • Priest — Recommended leveling direction: Shadow — Player note: Best solo damage direction, though wand/heal efficiency still matters.
  • Rogue — Recommended leveling direction: Combat — Player note: Reliable weapon damage and straightforward PvE talents.
  • Shaman — Recommended leveling direction: Enhancement — Player note: Strong current beta damage and low-friction open-world play.
  • Warlock — Recommended leveling direction: Affliction — Player note: DoTs, sustain and efficient multi-target questing.
  • Warrior — Recommended leveling direction: Arms — Player note: Best fit for weapon-focused solo leveling until full endgame builds take over.

Best First Character in WoW Forever

My answer is Hunter.

Not because it will necessarily be the best raid class six months after launch, but because a first character has a different job. It needs to level efficiently, farm materials, reach trainers and flight paths safely, complete awkward quests alone and build the gold that makes every later alt easier.

Warlock is a close second if you prefer caster gameplay. Paladin is the safest hybrid recommendation if you want the option to tank or heal later.

Best Class for Dungeon Leveling

Dungeon leveling changes the list because group roles become valuable.

  • Tank — Best leveling picks: Protection Warrior, Protection Paladin, Feral Bear
  • Healer — Best leveling picks: Priest, Restoration Shaman, Restoration Druid, Holy Paladin
  • DPS — Best leveling picks: Hunter, Enhancement Shaman, Rogue, Mage, Warlock

A slower solo class can level extremely quickly if it gets instant dungeon groups. This is the reason Warrior and Priest players should not panic when they see C tier.

How Much Can This Change Before Launch?

A lot.

Blizzard just shipped broad class tuning on October 15. Elemental Shaman moved up in fresh rankings, Shadow Priest improved, Retribution fell and several raid-wide buffs changed the value of bringing particular classes.

The beta also ends shortly before the November launch window, which means Blizzard still has time for at least one more balance pass.

The class fantasy is unlikely to change. The letters absolutely can.

WoW Forever Leveling Tier List FAQ

What is the best leveling class in WoW Forever?

Hunter is the strongest all-around leveling class in the current beta, with Warlock close behind. Both combine strong damage with low downtime and a pet or demon that absorbs pressure.

What is the fastest Hunter spec for leveling?

Beast Mastery is the safest general recommendation because pet-focused damage and survivability make solo questing extremely consistent.

Is Warrior bad in WoW Forever?

No. Warrior is simply slower and more gear-dependent while leveling. Its Level 60 DPS and tank outlook is much stronger than its leveling tier suggests.

Is Priest bad for leveling?

Priest is safe but slower. Shields, healing and wands make it reliable, while mana and lower solo damage keep it behind Hunter, Warlock and Mage for speed.

Should I choose a class based only on leveling speed?

No. Leveling is temporary and Forever is designed around long-term horizontal progression at level 60. Use this tier list if the leveling journey matters to you, not as a substitute for choosing an endgame main.

Final Thoughts

The best leveling class is not automatically the best class in WoW Forever.

Hunter is fantastic because it makes the journey painless. Warrior is interesting because the journey is the price you pay for what the class can become. Priest is slow because its power is aimed at groups rather than racing from boar to boar.

That is exactly why I like Classic-style class design.

The classes are not supposed to feel equally good at every job. They are supposed to feel different enough that choosing one actually matters.
