WoW 12.1.5 October 27 Hotfixes - Subtlety Nerfed, Feral and Fire Buffed
Patch 12.1.5 has reached the part of its life cycle where Blizzard stops asking whether a class changed and starts asking whether the change landed where it was supposed to.
For Subtlety Rogue, the answer was clearly no.
The spec received a large compensation buff when 12.1.5 launched, but Blizzard now says the result overshot expectations. The October 27 hotfixes cut all Subtlety ability damage by 8% and trim Trickster's Fazed bonus from 7% to 5%.
At the same time, several underperforming specs move in the opposite direction. Feral and Fire get broad 5% PvE buffs, Marksmanship receives a focused AoE pass, Restoration Druid gets help with five-player burst healing, and two Warlock abilities receive 20% increases.
October 27 PvE Class Tuning - Quick Summary
- Feral Druid — Change: All damage +5% — What Blizzard is targeting: Broad PvE throughput.
- Restoration Druid — Change: Verdancy +60%; Regrowth +10%; Improved Swiftmend 40% from 30% — What Blizzard is targeting: Dungeon burst healing without pushing raid throughput too far.
- Marksmanship Hunter — Change: Trick Shots ricochet 85% from 75%; Explosive Shot +10%; Volley +10% — What Blizzard is targeting: AoE effectiveness.
- Fire Mage — Change: All damage +5% — What Blizzard is targeting: PvE throughput; this does not apply in PvP.
- Subtlety Rogue — Change: All ability damage -8%; Trickster Fazed 5% from 7% — What Blizzard is targeting: Rollback after 12.1.5 compensation overshot.
- Affliction Warlock — Change: Unstable Affliction +20% — What Blizzard is targeting: Targeted spell damage.
- Destruction Warlock — Change: Rain of Fire +20% — What Blizzard is targeting: AoE damage.
- Mistweaver Monk — Change: Mistline bug fixed — What Blizzard is targeting: Reliability, not tuning.
Subtlety Rogue Gets the Biggest Change
This is the headline because it directly revises a change Blizzard made only two weeks ago.
When Patch 12.1.5 launched, Subtlety received a 14% ability-damage compensation increase. We covered that change in our Patch 12.1.5 launch guide. Blizzard now says that buff overshot expectations.
The new hotfix reduces all ability damage by 8%. Trickster is hit again through Fazed, which now increases damage by 5% instead of 7%, because Blizzard says the patch changes benefited Trickster more than Deathstalker.
The important takeaway is not to treat this as Blizzard undoing Subtlety completely. It is a partial rollback after the post-patch spec landed too high.
Feral Druid and Fire Mage Get Simple 5% PvE Buffs
Feral and Fire receive the easiest notes to read: all PvE damage increases by 5%.
These are broad buffs, which usually means Blizzard is trying to lift the entire damage profile rather than fix one awkward spell. Both are explicitly marked as not affecting PvP combat.
If you play either spec in Mythic+, check the current popular builds on our PvE talents pages once enough post-hotfix runs have been logged. A flat tuning pass does not always change the build, but it can change which spec is worth bringing.
Restoration Druid Gets a Dungeon-Focused Healing Pass
Restoration Druid has the most interesting developer note in the PvE section.
Blizzard says the spec is doing well in raids but falling behind other healers when five-player groups take sudden burst damage. Instead of buffing everything, the team targets tools more common in dungeon healing.
- Verdancy healing increased by 60%.
- Regrowth healing increased by 10%.
- Improved Swiftmend now boosts Swiftmend healing by 40%, up from 30%.
That is a healthier kind of tuning than simply adding 8% to every heal. Raid Resto was already fine; the problem was reacting quickly enough when a Mythic+ group got punched at the same time.
Marksmanship Hunter Gets the AoE Buff It Was Missing
Marksmanship is another case where Blizzard names the exact problem: area damage.
- Trick Shots increases Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire ricochet damage by 85%, up from 75%.
- Explosive Shot damage increased by 10%.
- Volley damage increased by 10%.
That should matter most in sustained dungeon pulls and raid cleave rather than pure single-target boss damage.
It also arrives in the same reset as a sizeable Marksmanship PvP pass, but the PvE and PvP lines are separate. Do not look at the +40% Kill Shot PvP line and assume your raid execute suddenly exploded.
Affliction and Destruction Get Targeted Warlock Buffs
Warlock does not get a class-wide pass.
Affliction's Unstable Affliction damage goes up 20%, while Destruction's Rain of Fire also gets a 20% increase.
Those buffs push very different parts of the specs: Unstable Affliction helps Affliction's core pressure, while Rain of Fire is a direct dungeon/AoE lever for Destruction.
Labyrinth Great Vault Credit Is Finally Fixed
Not every important hotfix is a class number.
Blizzard fixed an issue where some Labyrinth scenarios were not granting Great Vault credit. If you ran the Kindo'jan Labyrinth specifically to progress your weekly Vault and watched the counter refuse to move, this was a real progression bug rather than a UI mystery.
The Labyrinth is one of the central systems added in 12.1.5. Our Patch 12.1.5 guide covers the system alongside Kith'ix, the mid-season power refresh and Keystone Myth.
PvP Tuning Is Much Larger Than the PvE List
The PvP section touches ten classes, so it deserves more than a footnote even though this article's main search intent is PvE tuning.
- Unholy DK — PvP highlight: San'layn Vampiric Strike -20%.
- Devourer DH — PvP highlight: Collapsing Star +20%.
- Preservation Evoker — PvP highlight: Chronowarden Living Flame and Reverberations substantially buffed.
- Marksmanship Hunter — PvP highlight: Kill Shot +40%, Black Arrow +40%, Deathblow proc chance increased.
- Fire Mage — PvP highlight: All PvP damage -5%, opposite direction from its PvE buff.
- Frost Mage — PvP highlight: Frostfire Meteor and Pyroblast effects +20%.
- Mistweaver Monk — PvP highlight: Conduit of the Celestials healing/absorb buffs.
- Holy Paladin — PvP highlight: All healing +5%; Holy Light mana support improved.
- Holy Priest — PvP highlight: Archon/group-healing pass.
- Assassination Rogue — PvP highlight: Deathstalker damage package buffed.
- Restoration Shaman — PvP highlight: Healing Stream/Stormstream Totem +20%.
How This Changes the 12.1.5 Meta
The most immediate meta story is Subtlety coming back toward the pack after its launch spike.
At the other end, Marksmanship, Feral and Fire gain enough to justify a fresh look at logs rather than relying on Week 1 rankings. Restoration Druid may be the most important Mythic+ change because healer viability is often determined by whether a spec can answer the worst 10 seconds of a pull, not by its average HPS across the whole dungeon.
This all lands after the previous October tuning pass that hit Unholy DK and buffed Devourer, Brewmaster, Mistweaver, Subtlety Trickster and Enhancement. See our October 6 class tuning breakdown for the earlier baseline.
What Should You Do Before Your Next Mythic+ Run?
- Subtlety Rogue: re-check your damage profile and Hero Talent choice after the rollback.
- Restoration Druid: revisit dungeon talents that lean on Verdancy, Regrowth and Swiftmend.
- Marksmanship: expect the biggest benefit on multi-target pulls, not necessarily raid single target.
- Fire Mage and Feral: broad buffs mean old rankings can become stale quickly.
- Warlock: Affliction and Destruction buffs are spell-specific, so do not assume every damage scenario improves equally.
- Labyrinth players: Great Vault credit should now work for affected scenarios.
If you are pushing keys this reset, remember the dungeon pool itself was recently nerfed as well. Our October 13 Mythic+ tuning article covers Altar of Fangs, Ruby Life Pools, Murder Row, Blinding Vale and more.

Final Thoughts
This is the first 12.1.5 tuning pass that feels less like launch compensation and more like Blizzard reacting to live results.
Subtlety went too far, so part of the buff comes back. Restoration Druid is fine in raids but weak in five-player burst windows, so Blizzard targets dungeon tools. Marksmanship needs AoE help, so the changes hit AoE buttons instead of single target.
That specificity is usually a good sign. It also means any tier list written before October 27 deserves another look.
